Since March, there has been a standstill on elective dental procedures. The state of Illinois has released its reopening plan for the state. Now the okay has been given to begin accepting patients for all dental needs, and the only way to make this happen is to create a new normal. The new normal comes with rules and procedures to provide safety to patients and staff.
How Our Office is Changing, for the Better
For the unforeseeable future, our office will be practicing new procedures. These procedures are to provide a safe environment for patients and staff members.
Social distancing has been the number one measure of precaution with the COVID-19 virus. In our office, we are practicing the same. As much as we love our patients, we will no longer be shaking hands. We also ask that all patients waiting to remain six feet apart comply with social distancing measures.
Our first station, when entering the office, will screen for symptoms. We will also use this station as a temperature check. Anyone entering the office must be free of cold or flu-related symptoms. Temperatures of 100.4°F or higher will not be seen in the office during that visit. These same measures apply to our staff, as well.
Some of our patients are considered vulnerable to COVID-19. For these patients, we have set aside special hours for their appointments. We want to be able to see their smiles and give them the dental care they need. Changing our schedule can provide them the safest environment.
To further prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are removing items from the waiting room. All unnecessary items, like magazines and toys, have been removed. Sharing items without properly sanitizing can facilitate the spread of COVID-19.
It takes more than proper handwashing to control the COVID-19 virus, and our office is taking cleaning to the next level. Every hour we are cleaning the office. The reception area is being disinfected every hour, along with the check-in and check-out counters. The bathrooms are included hourly unless they need it sooner.
Disinfecting wipes are being used on doorknobs and sinks. This measure is being implemented between patients to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
